Leo's miniature log

05/06/25, 20:36 : first entry
hi im not sure how to start this one. i very recently got into miniatures and i wanted to have a little space on my site to talk about them so here it is. im sure i dont need to clarify this but i am very very much a beginner + have really bad pulse so most of these arent great LOL but i have a lot of fun with it so i think its worth it at the end of the day idk
anyway to be completely honest i started getting into this hobby because i really wanted to expand my little sherlock holmes corner on my shelf and i felt like miniatures would be a pretty fun way of doing that and it eventually snowballed into a weeks long obsession. its so bad im constantly thinking of ways i can add more to my little room im annoying everyone around me about it.
i started by making some armchairs following a really good tutorial on youtube and kind of went from there. afterwards i made a furnace (which was the first time i attempted to build something without any pattern or tutorial or anything which is why it looks. like that), added some decorative objects on top of it, found a bunch of old playmobil furniture i had from the only set i ever owned and added them to the room, made more tiny objects, added a bookshelf, added another table... a LOT of stuff happened okay. i dont think i can go into detail here simply because im too lazy to do so

so thats what it looks like right now. im hoping this is obvious but that is an attempt at a recreation of the sitting room of 221B baker street... did you guys know there are a lot of different floor plans and interpretations of what that room would have looked like. i initially wanted to keep it as close to canon as possible but that would have been. SO difficult. and i feel like theres a lot of fun in being able to design and put together the room in whatever way i consider best or more appropriate to the space its in.
speaking of which, as shown in the above images, right now its sitting on one of the shelves on my desk. which means it gets moved around a lot and there isnt much space to expand upon what i already have.... this is a bit of a dilemma because i would really, really like doing the entire thing (perhaps following more closely some of my favorite interpretations of 221b) BUT that would mean having to move it away from my shelf :-( which is sad because i like having it next to my books. perhaps i can come up with some sort of system which would allow me to push it a bit further back but idk.... i at least want to add a sofa (granadas sherlock holmes show has a really cool sofa with like. fabric draped over it which i find SO cool and want to recreate) but right now i cant fit it anywhere. sad
besides that not much... i recently struggled like CRAZY while trying to figure how to build a proper looking coat rack without going insane. i almost failed.... after many attempts at it i managed to make it look decent by modeling the hooks with wire and covered it with uh. enduido? i have no idea how to translate that and google is not helping. its like a white paste thats used to prepare and level walls before painting them so it dries relatively quickly and has some sort of... chalk-ish finish that lets you sand it down once its dry. using construction material for my miniature project sounds a bit insane now that im re-reading this but whatever it worked perfectly and thats what matters. im sure there were easier ways to go around it but i have enduido at home so who gaf
aaaand right now im working on a round table. well im almost done with it im just waiting for the fabric that im putting on top of it to dry (it actually dried in the time it took me to get up and go take a picture of it btw. which is why its in the picture) and i kind of need to make better looking cups and fix the teapot (im pretending these were intended to be prototypes. ill figure out a way to make them look decent some other time)
so basically my plans for right now are either managing to make more space on my shelf SOMEHOW or getting a cardboard box and moving it to a proper display once and for all. besides that im not really planning other projects but i thought making some of the other rooms in 221b could be pretty cool. well holmes room at least... we dont get much of a description of anything else. but i think a bedroom could be really really fun... lots of fabrics and stuff
okay thats enough rambling i still need to figure out how to make this page look decent
